Ballou High School Library in need of Books

As mentioned in the previous post, the Frederick Douglass Birthday Celebration is also a fundraiser for the library at Ballou High School in Washington, DC.  In the Washington Post article, “Librarian at D.C.’s Ballou High Scrambles for Books,” writer, Bill Turque, describes Melissa’s Jackson’s efforts to build her school’s library collection.  It sounds like she has done a lot to turn the library around in less than two years, but it also sounds like she has a long way to go to reach her ultimate goal for the library.  Based on reader inquiries, the Washington Post posted Ms. Jackson’s wish list.  And, to her credit Ms. Jackson has made a fundraising video.  If you’re looking to make a charitable contribution that will impact the lives of students, Ballou High School Library might be worth considering.
