Emory University Libraries to Preserve African American Scrapbooks

A scrapbook created by African American vaudeville performer Johnny Hudgins.

Emory’s Manuscript, Archives and Rare Books Library has been awarded a Save America’s Treasures grant to preserve approximately 30 scrapbooks documenting the lives and works of artists, students, former slaves and others.  With funding for the next three years, the staff at Emory will be able to conserve and treat the scrapbooks as well as create digital surrogates that will be used in teaching and for research.  A March 2, 2011 press release provides additional details.
