Poet + African Descended + Living in Appalachia = Affrilachian Poet

In 1991 Frank X Walker coined the term Affrilachian to dispel the myth of Appalachia as  a one-dimensional, monolithic construct.  He, Nikki Finney, and a number of other individuals connected to the University of Kentucky, had recently formed a collective of poets.  This collective would eventually come to be known as Affrilachian Poets.  Learn more about the group and the poets at their web site.  The site includes information about the documentary, Coal Black Voices, a link to their YouTube channel, and much more.
