The Great Debate III: Yale vs. Howard

If you are in the DC area this weekend, watch teams from Howard and Yale universities debate during the NAACP’s third Annual “Great Debate” scheduled to take place on the campus of Howard University.

If you’re not…well, you can always rent The Great Debaters, the 2007 film inspired by the true story of the Wiley College debate team.  In the 1920s and 1930s, Wiley’s debate team beat larger and more prestigious Black universities and in 1935 defeated the University of Southern California.  The team was led by English professor and poet, Melvin Tolson.
