The Prep School Negro documents the prep school experience of filmmaker André Robert Lee. At age 14, Lee received a scholarship to attend the elite Germantown Friends School in Philadelphia, a world away from his inner city home. The film explores Lee’s coming of age while navigating two very different worlds in the 1980s. Lee also talks to students attending prep schools today to gauge how much has changed over the last 20 years. Since 2009 the film has been screened all over the county and will premier in New York City June 9, 2011 at Lincoln Center’s Walter Reade Theater. If anyone has seen the film, feel free to share your thoughts.
